Reviving Education

Knowledge can live on forever, it can stand the passage of time and brighten the future. Education of that knowledge is where it all begins, but it seems….inadequate. Just like the knowledge that is continuously subject to change, so should education. Another aspect that could use some help is remembering education. That simply means to revive old knowledge once again. Yes, science and technology is moving at an incredible speed…but not in all areas.

Perhaps it should begin with changing the way education is done. Kids are certainly smarter these days. That however is not because of better classrooms in schools. Today we have the internet and television. Both are excellent sources of information, but it is not enough. It could be used though. The reason the internet is so attractive as a source of information is because it is immediate, fast and current. We don’t have to wait to have our questions answered and we don’t have to worry if our questions are silly. In the classroom, the smartest kid is getting ahead much faster because he/she picks up that information faster. The rest have to wait a while. Then they go home, go online and read…at least the ones that care enough do. That information, while available, can be incomplete and there is no one to really explain it to you. Therefore it should be integrated, immediately accessible information with the human touch of a teacher to guide you through that data.

As far as reviving knowledge goes, TV could be the key. Since the dawn of shows like CSI, making forensic science look uber-cool, we have heard more kids considering forensics as a college option. What if we did the same for more areas. A show for history, where the hero uses historical facts to save the day perhaps? Educate so that we don’t have to replicate; so that we can create; so that we can once again go back and Educate.
