Earlier education was informal in nature but now it is very formal. In the formal structure of education, there are many stages that a person goes through during the process of education.
Some of the stages of formal education include primary education, secondary education, and higher education. At times, when people are not able to complete any stage successfully during their formal education, later in life, they opt for adult education as well. Let us discuss some of the stages in brief.
Primary education, generally, includes first five to eight years of schooling of a child, depending on which country the child lives in. Some changes have taken place in primary education recently such as the introduction of play schools or pre-primary school in some places. Many parents send their children to these schools before their child enters a formal school.
Primary education is considered to be very important as it builds a foundation of education and students who do not perform well during primary education usually find it difficult to cope up with their studies later on. Thus, primary education should be given extra attention.
Secondary education is the next step on the education ladder and is imparted to a child during his teenage. This stage of education aims at preparing the student for general knowledge of all the subjects which would help him live his life in a proper manner and also prepare the students for higher education. Some students may opt for professional courses after their secondary education and thus secondary education caters to all these needs.
Higher education is imparted to students in university and colleges after they complete their schooling. It is not compulsory for students to pursue higher education as many students may choose to start their career after completing their schooling. Such is the setup of formal education.
